93 Vet Conv with Instrument Cluster intermitent failure

My Vet Speedometer Cluster group goes off and on with light taps to dash cuasing on mode less and less. I was told by a radio tech the connector that looks like a computer hard drive connection ribbon that mounts to the back of the instrument pannel most likely has a loose connection. I was wondering if there might be loose ground. What's the part name and how do I access it? Where are the most simple instructions?
