back hatch on 1987 corvette will not stay up when opened

My 1987 corvette hatch will not stay up when opened, i have to hold it up. I don't know the problem or how to fix it. Please help

You hatch struts have failed. The 2 piston like struts on each side of the glass can be easily replaced, and will last the rest of the cars life. try Corvette Central online or your local NAPA or ADVANCE auto parts.
