Duane Ooms

Could you tell me anything about the stamping of engine blocks in 1972 corvettes--my car has a 350 in it but it has an aluminum tag rivited to the number padwith a ca649 stamped on it--there is a stamped number under the tag but I dont know what the tag means--if you could shed some light on this I will appreciate it ---thanks

get a hold of dave paige from the tin man auto wrecking in cobble hill, he has all the books to cross reference #s. you can google the tin man or call him @ 250 743 7321.....mike your brother

Thanks for the answer but I still don't fully understand the need of the tag-- I have never seen that type of tag ever-- how would I find out more about this- I plan on rebuilding this engine soon-ft Mac is home for the next 2 years

Duane . Your stamp code indicates the number sequence for that year. By that I mean if there were 2500 produced and alloted for vettes each one will be assigned for a certain car and in order of production date/time. Your number indicates a very special trial engine which was not supposed to be for retail sale. Of course everybody would know that! Are you from Ft. Mac.?
