have 2002 350 hp automatic with transmission slipping.

by russell
(lubbock, tx)

2002 corvette

2002 corvette

Owned this vette for 5 months, has 86,00 miles. seems like great car but out of no where with no leaks, the transmission slips going to 3rd and will never go to 4th. I have been amazed at how smooth this trans shifted and then boom out of nowhere this happens. do the vettes have trouble with the automatics. have not been hard on the vette. have not gone over 90 mph and that was just passing then back to 70mph. do these type trans have filters like regular cars?

Transmissions
by: Corvette web central

Not generaly a weak link unless you add more power to the engine. They do have filters just like any auto trans. The only difference on the transmission is the servicing procedure. They have no dip stick. The fluid checking procedure is tricky. You may want to take it to a GM dealer to check the service first. You could try talking to some C5 Corvette transmission experts to. We suggest talking to http://www.rpmtransmissions.com/. They can help you maybe figure out what direction to go. They do transmission builds for Lingenfelter and lots of the top Corvette tuners. There prices are decent compared to a GM reman and its way stronger. Not trying to plug just trying to steer you in a positive direction. They will probably tell you that is the week link in the C5 when you add power as it takes a lot of the grunt at higher speeds! Good luck let us know what you find out!
