Hi everyone, I'd like to know why every time I apply the brakes on my 2000 C5 the lights in the dashboard flash and the fuel pump gets deactivated, thereby preventing the car from starting.

Everytime I start the car up, it starts fine. But whenever I apply the brake pedal to put the car on drive, it shuts off and it deactivates the fuel pump and the car won't restart. Its a 2000 C5 automatic.

If I let it sit for a half an hour or so, it will then restart, and it will stay running all the time as long as I do not re-apply the brakes again. If I apply the brakes it would do the same exact thing again and it won't restart until for at least a half an hour again. I also notice that the lights in the dashboard and the tail lights get turned on whenever I depress the brake pedal and then go off as soon as I let go the brake pedal.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

Im assuming there may be a short somewhere that is causing this, and that short takes place as soon as I hit the brake pedal and it deactivates the fuel pump, thereby preventing the car from restarting for at least a half an hour or so.

Im considering by passing the fuel pump or the relay to see if I can at least keep the car running whenever I apply the brakes. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on how to by pass the fuel pump or the relay, I appreciate it

Security system is deactivating the car. Make sure the contacts on your ignition key are in good shape and clean. You might want to ensure the contacts on the key cylinder are also not damaged. Maybe try purchasing a new key. Make sure and purchase the correct resistance for the key. We can help if you need more info!
