Hood Latch location

I am storing a 1986 Corvette for a friend who is in Afghanistan. I need to charge the battery but can't find the hood release handles. Please tell me where they are located.

8" inches as measured by a "man"! actually more like 3" according to my wife

The latch is located under dash (far left) next to the drivers door, back about 8 inches.
