I have a 1979 corvette that i was replacing alternator - forgot charger was on battery at the time saw smoke I think coming from the starter solenoid - now I have no power to ANYTHING!... Help!

smoke from solonoid

Actually the short caused your wiring harness to burn up in a "puff" of smoke. Hence no power to rest of car. Replace harness from starter to firewall to restore power.

you have burnt the fusable link down at the starter. when this wire is broken the is NO POWER to nothin. been there done this

Check for power

Check for power at the end of every power lead coming from the battery. Check fuse-able links also. Most likely you shorted the power lead from the battery to the alternator and burned up a fuse-able link.
