If feels like only the front breaks are working and the break light comes on but if I hit the break really fast it goes off

The problem is that when I hit the brakes it feels like not all the brakes are working and the brake is almost to the floor and when I hit the brake the brake light comes on but if I hit the brake really fast it goes off right away
