missing fender scoops on '56 Vette

My '56 Corvette, ser # E56S001635

I recently purchased a '56 Corvette with no fender scoops. The second owner claims it was ordered without them. I know of only two other '56's without these scoops. One is serial # 1. (E56S001001. The other was a Craig's list ad about a year ago that had several photos and was advertised as a one owner "survivor". The photos also showed no fender scoops. So, I would like to know if one could order a car without these scoops. They are readily available and I will have this work done if I should. However, I want to keep the car original.
