Service ABS, Service Active Handling, and Service Traction Sys are coming up

This is my wife's Vette that I purchased a year ago to replace her 2003 which was totaled. I purchased a 2001 with extremely low miles (12,601, ran the CarFax and had the car checked thoroughly and everything came back clean. Now after a little more than a year and having a total of 15,406 miles we are starting to get the intermittent fault codes Service ABS, Service Active Handling, and Service Traction System. I cleared the codes the first couple of times only to have them come back a few days later. One code will sometimes not remove and that is the TCS28 code but when I turn the ignition off the code disappears and there is no history left behind.

I've replaced the battery and cleaned the grounds under the tray and adjacent to the headlights (none of which were dirty). I even took the covers off the ones near the headlamps and made sure the inside terminals were clean. My next step is raise the car and pull teh wheel and check the terminals at each wheel for connection and/or corrosion. After that if the problem still pops up I am at a loss other than taking it to the dealership.

Never had a problem like this with any of my previous Corvettes or my 2003 ZO6 with 38,847 miles that I still own and drive periodically.

Can you help me solve this issue?

Repaired
by: Raymond Ellis

Just wanted to post a follow up on my wife's C5 with the dreaded fault codes. As it turns out it was the cold solder joints in the BCM module that was giving me all the hassles. I removed the unit and instead of trying to repair it myself (which I know I could) I decided to ship it to ABS Fixer in Missouri Brandon of ABS Fixer was more than helpful. He explained what he was going to do to repair the unit and all I had to do was remove the module portion and ship it to him prepaid ($150.00) and he would do the rest. I received the unit back in less than 72 hours completely repaired and ready to re-install "AND" with a complete lifetime warranty on the repair as well. I installed the module, reconnected the battery, cleared any and all existing codes and started the engine. Its been several months now and not once have the codes reappeared. I can't say enough good things about Brandon and ABS Fixer. If anyone has this same problem or you experience any issue remotely related to this please don't hesitate to contact Brandon at ABS Fixer. You won't be dissatisfied and with the lifetime warranty that should just about say it all.

ABS Problem
by: Chris

Ray,

Good job on checking all the common areas for problems with the C5 electrical gremlins! Now for the bad news, 2001 was the first year for this style ABS pump and module. This unit has several issues with it, one of which is cold solder joints on the PC boards. This is due to poor manufacturing tolerances and quality control. Over time normal driving induces vibration into this component and the solder joints fail prematurely. If you have eliminated all other options your last resort will be to change ACDelco 10343432 GM Original Equipment ABS Pressure Modulator Valve
