Gas Problems

by James
(Montgomery AL)

Why does my 1975 corvette loses power after driving for about 1 mile and I have to wait for several minutes before it will start again? I recently cleaned out the fuel tank and lines, installed a new carburetor, plugs and wires.

power loss* Fuel???
by: Auto Appraiser * Ned

when you lose power it also could be a catalytic converter clogging up? If it is going bad,...this only happens like you explained it... when exhaust gets hot and driven short distances...? first...are you sure it is a fuel problem.
converters get hot and restrict exhaust flow and start to stall/choke out running engine and loses power? if it sounds like a whoooshing pressurized airflow noise from the exhaust....before it loses power it may be the converter. to test this disconnect exhaust in front converter (loud) now drive car and see if it loses power? hope this helps. just a thought....
