C4 Idle problems

I have a 1990 C4, the car has recently started having problems on idle when the gear is in drive. The idle will not be consistent and the engine rocks slightly from side to side. If I have the car in either neutral or park the idle is absolutley perfect. The only thing I have done to the car recently is change the battery. Any help is most appreciated.
