73 Vette fuel gauge issue

My 73 Vette fuel gauge needle points to the 3 o'clock position when the tank is full.
I have replaced the fuel tank sending unit and have attached a new ground wire to the frame. I have tested my dash gauge with a multi meter and it appears to be working fine. I ran a wire from the fuel gauge to the sending unit and there is no change. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the gauge to read over full?
