broken door latch

Hi, I have a 70 corvette with a broken passenger side door latch. I cant get the door to open.

This also happened to my 70. I rolled both windows down and used a flashlight to watch what parts moved on the working latch when I opened the door. Then using a coat hanger I was able to move, for lack of a better term, a small lever on the
non working latch. Wala it opened. I then removed the door panel and then the latch. After inspecting, cleaning, lubricating and reinstalling it, the latch failed again a few days later. My aha moment was that I should have replaced it the first time I had the door apart.
