Dash lights don't work NEW
by: Brian

I have the same problem as Don. Dash lights on my 78 don't work. I washed the car the other day and boom, the dash lights worked about half way to my job, then, went out again. I turned the headlight switch to check the dimmer when the lights didn't work and nothing, but when the lights came on after washing it, the dimmer worked. courtesy lights come on with both doors, but not with the headlight switch.
I also noticed my blue high beam indicator light works, but the high beam headlights don't.

Have you tried the obvious and rotate the headlight pull switch?

Not sure if this helps but on my 1975 the instument cluster needs to be grounded in order for the dash lights to work. Try pulling one of the plugs with the buld out and turn the dash lights on (there should be clips around the bulb holster to hold it into the dash) try grounding one of these clips if the light comes on then the dash isn't grounded properly.I had the same problem but mine turned out to be a bad wiring harness took about 12 hours for me to change the entire harness myself.

Don't know if this might help but I had a problem with my 1978 dash lights. My bulbs and fuses and switch checked out OK. The wiring diagram indicated that there was a delay/timer in the dash light circuitlocated near the switch. I bypassed the timer by simply plugging the input/output plugs together, and the dash lights worked, but turned off immediately when the car was turned off. I think the delay left the lights on a few seconds after the car was turned off. Seems like the timer was bad.
