permanently locked my driver side door

My door latch was missing a small clip connecting the left door handle rod to the latch which would not allow me to open my drivers side door from the outside. I replaced the clip and the door could be opened from both the inside and outside. After locking the door from the outside I can no longer open the door from either the outside or inside. How can I get the door open again?
