Water Temp Gauge - 77 corvette

I recently bought a 77 vette with a very mild supercharger (6 lb boost) 350 engine and 85,000 miles. It has sat a while.

I've:

1. flushed the system several times,
2. new water pump,
3. used a compressor to blow the fins out on the radiator and the AC condenser,
4. inspected the hoses, added the wire to the bottom hose within 1" of connection to the radiator and pump,
5. put new sending unit in block for water temp
6. poured water down the thermostat, placed a funnel above the radiator with standing fluid and allowed it to "stand" incase of air bubbles
7. Chin spoiler is placed on the car

8. Withstood numerous attacks by my "Native American Wife" for having bought a " @#$% Corvette " I feel I can hold my own after being an Indian Fighter for nearly 25 years, but I am getting slower,older.....and tired.

I placed a thermometer in the radiator and it only reads between 190-210 when idling, but the gauge on the instrument panel shows 250+ and this is idling for less than 15 minutes - yet the thermometer in the radiator doesn't seem to get over the 200 mark.

When going down the road it will red line on temp gauge in less than 6 miles.

I'm thinking of trying an aftermarket temp gauge and sending unit to do another test-

Is it possible that the radiator is staying cool and the block is pegging out? should I take it down to the heads and take a look inside it?

I had a short on the ground to the gauge. Mechanical gauge verified it, and a faulty radiator cap. Added a Mark 8 fan to it now it is okay. Think I.llgo back to trucks. Listed it on craigslist columbia\jeff city mo. Look, for widow maker.
