1985 Bose Radio

The Bose radio will play for 15 min to 1 hour the volume is very low then all of sudden it will stop working an all you can get is static. If I turn the radio off and let it sit for 1 hour then it will start working again but only for a short period of time.
i would appreciate if anyone who has had the same problem give me a few suggestions on what I should be looking for to repair it.
