1998 C5 Under hood light

I replace the reg bulb with an LED bulb. The LED bulb will not go off. So I put the reg bulb back in . Now the light will not work with reg bulb. So I replaced the hold switch . The same thing happens. What shell I do? Will the battery go down if I leave an LED bulb in I leave the hood open at car shows?
