This is most likely an issue with the contacts on the key tumbler. The key has a built in resistance and makes contact with the ignition tumbler. It could be caused by key wear or and issue with the lock.

Its also possible that your car has never had the recall completed to bypass the steering column lock. Here is an aftermarket solution:

A new key may be all you need to fix your problem since they do wear like I said at the contact points. You can see them in the picture on the stem of the key. Its the black square with metal tabs. The keys have a VATS code so be careful when ordering.
