CH Headlight Problems

by Jim Barnes
(Keyport WA USA)

I believe that the ground for the HCM on our 2002 Corvette may be faulty. It works in the garage but when we take it out the lights will not pop up when the lights are turned on.

I have not been able to find the HCM (Headlight Control Module) or its associated ground. I believe it is supposed to be directly behind the Drivers Side headlight but I have no idea of how to remove the light.

Copy this link https://www.corvette-web-central.com/C5repair.html The first video at the top will show you how to get the light apart. Its called C5 Headlight Motor Repair. That should help you get to the HCM. You can see it at about 1:30 minutes in. I would suggest swapping the HCM LH to RH to T/S if you dont find a ground problem. I believe the ground block is near the hood hinge and that is a source of many problems. You have to inspect the plug end for corrosion and clean up if needed.
Let me know if I can be of any further assistance!
Just email me at corvett2@corvette-web-central.com this stuff is fun for me!
Thanks,
Chris
