Cracking/popping noise in passenger floorboard area

Crackling/popping noise in area of passenger floorboard.about a week ago their was a small clicking noise behind dash near drivers side when engine was shut down. It would stop after a little while. Then the other day I went to start car and battery was dead. I had to move car to get the other out. Turned key in shifted to neutral and roles it down drive . When I turned the key off the noise started in passenger floorboard area. It doesn't sound good,l haven't tried to do anything since,any ideas as to what is wrong would be greatly appreciated
