many possibilities

Most people suggest either the fuel pump or vapor lock. This is the first thing I would check.

Depending on the year of the car, I have seen the ignition coil get over-heated and it fails to start until it cools - strange, but this was a common problem back in the 70's.

I have a 67 vette and usually start checking the basics first, fuel then spark. Good Luck!
