Drivers side window makes crunching noise only when going down.

2003 ZO6 - Driver's window works perfect, but makes a crunching noise when it goes down. It makes the noise only it is lowered from the fully up position. I have removed the door panel and noticed that the rear cable for the window is tight and the front cable is loose. I suspect that the rear is too tight and that is what it sounds like. Can I adjust the cables to have them equal in tension or is that normal?

Window driver or passenger side
by: Mike

Hi, I had the same problem with my passenger side window. I took the door panel of much easier than I expected by the way. I notice there is a single cable built with smaller strands wrap together into one.
The small strands are breaking on the cable causing the noise you hear. You have to replace the whole unit call Window regulator or have yours rebuilt. I found a company in Brooklyn New York who will rebuild you regulator and ship it back to your for $150.00. www.windowregulatosusa.com . I bought a new window regulator from http://www.newgmpartsusa.com/ for 300.00 plus shipping. The dealers in Canada want over $1000.00 for the same part. By the way to replace the window regulator took me a whole 30 minutes. Four mounting bolts and align the window and your done.

Good luck
Mike
