Engine sound

I am wanting to change the sound of my 2002 Corvette to make it sound a little deeper and louder - not overbearing, but as loud as a camaro or mustang. So far I'm running into nearly 1,000. Is there any cheaper option?

I had the mufflers removed and straight 2 1/2 inch piping installed. Cost can vary quite a bit depending on the shop and alot on the tips you go with. I went with dual black chrome 16 inch tips at a custom shop with the cost coming in at $500. If you go on youtube, there are a number of muffler delete videos that will give you an idea of what the results are.
