Steering column is to short

Bought a 1960 corvette apart.Checking everything as installing to make sure it is correct.Steering column is correct column is correct as original ,frame is straight,interior dash is in correct location. But when hub it tight to column and put wheel on rubs and not close to bolting tight.Appears to be 1/2" short is it possible someone removed body and have it 1/2 or more to the front?Any one run into this problem?Firewall is all original.Thanks Jeff
