Temperature gauge malfunction

The temperature gauge on my 2003 Corvette is malfunctioning. When the car starts the temp needle goes offscale right, returns to the actual block temperature and then returns to the far right (overheat) indication. The digital readout indicates XXX for temperature also and all other gauges are functioning properly, so there is no way to determine whether the car is actually overheating. This car has not been driven for the past two years, which should not be an issue.

Coolant Sensor
by: Chris

This system for monitoring the coolant temp is pretty simple. If the wiring looks to be in good condition you will need to replace the 1997-2013 Corvette Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
The sensor works by modifying the electrical resistance via the physical reaction that happens when the sensor is heated.
