The rear window defogger wires on my 2004 C5 Z06 have changed to distort lights at night

When I look in the rear view mirror I see the images attached. Thinking it was a rear view mirror problem the dealer replaced it - the problem is still there. Next we checked for glass distortion but found none. So what is left is that the defogger wires have physically, mechanically changed to create this optical diffraction effect of headlights of other vehicles at night.

Anyone ever have or seen this problem before???

Tinted Glass
by: Corvette Master Technician Chris

Is your rear window tinted? Factory tint is ok but aftermarket applications can degrade over time. I would suspect this is the case. The glue starts to diffract the light differently as the sun and heat modify's its flatness. Its worth a check especially if the car was not your from day one. Someone could have tinted the rear window before you purchased the car and never noticed it.
