Ticking noise, comfirmed check valve in the inake manifold

Well i took my car to the dealer and they comfirmed i have a check valve problem related to the smog pump. They have to pull off the intake manifold and replace the check valves since i have a ticking noise and its bothering me a bit. How do i disable the smog pump, is there a switch or fuse just to see if the noise goes away. Even if i disable the smog pump will the ticking noise from the check valves go away or do i need to remove the entire pump?

Check valve
by: Corvette-web-central

The check valve is there to keep the exhaust from back feeding to the Air pump. The check valve that is most likely bad is for the RH engine bank. We determined that since the dealer is saying that they have to remove the intake. The smog pump only runs under no load conditions like idle. During normal driving the pump does not run. You may be able to hear the pump run at idle or a stop light. Other than that it does not operate. The Air pump infuses air into the exhaust system to help the catalytic converters reduce emissions. This helps the vehicle lower emissions and since all testing is only required during idle thats the only time this pump will run. Disabling the smog (Air) pump will not stop the check valve from making noise since the exhaust gases will still be applying pressure to the check valve. This may or may not be your noise problem.

Our recommendation:
Let the dealer change the valve. Use a GM part as they last longer. Since this valve failure is quiet common and easy to troubleshoot have faith in the dealer for changing it. The noise may go on but the valve should be changed. Next since the other high failure item is the oil pressure sending unit (that is located right next to the check valve) should also be replaced. This saves you the labor of having to pull the intake off again. Its not a matter of "if" but "when" this Oil Pressure Sending unit fails. The oil pressure reads all sorts of crazy numbers.
