whinning noise

I have a 1985 corvette and I have a whinning noise which sounds like it is coming from under the hood. I have removed the serpentine belt and it still makes the noise, it gets louder as you give it gas. Any idea what to look for ?

It could be a power steering pump or it could be a alternator noise . Is it the air being sucked in when you step on your gas petal . Has your radiator
got fluid in it ? You half to check everything.
